Loving him through Him

I really enjoy writing about what God is teaching me. It gives me a way of further solidifying, in my life, the Truth He is so graciously showing me. There is so much growing to do (throughout my entire walk with Christ) and I want to be totally transformed, becoming more like Jesus continuously. It is a blessing to be able to have a taste of the wisdom of the Almighty!
My hubby and me!
As I read through a wonderful book entitled The Excellent Wife by Martha Peace I've been learning a lot of biblical wisdom which I am striving to apply to my life. An important topic for me is how in marriage we unfortunately may have idolatrous desires. We can know if our desires are idolatrous if our heart is set on them and if they are what we really long for. Some questions listed in this book to ask ourselves are- Do I desire my husband to...
  • be affectionate?
  • anticipate my needs without my asking?
  • give me compliments?
  • make me feel special?
  • put me first?
  • share his thoughts and feelings with me?
  • be perfect?
Instead, we need to have our desires rooted in God's will. As a God-fearing wife, my heart's desires should be set on...
  • knowing God's word and obeying it.
  • delighting in the Lord.
  • seeking Him with all my heart.
  • being pleasing to Him regardless of my circumstances.
  • cultivating a heart of joy and thankfulness in what God is doing in my life, no matter what my husband does or does not do.
  • having joy in God using me for His glory through all of the circumstances in my life!
Being a human and being married to a human isn't always easy. I find it to be a fantastic opportunity to practice surrendering to God! As hard as it is to go against my natural fleshly nature, I am excessively blessed when I do things God's way! Certainly I'm not perfect, nor will I be, but I will keep on trying to be like my perfect Lord.

Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.  Colossians 3:1-4 NASB

Hope you have a very loving day!

I love this guy!

  2. My husband (whose name is also Steven!) and I have been married for a year. I'm learning that I have many of the wrong desires you list here and have been seeking to find more of my desires in God rather than in my husband. Difficult for sure! But I have a lifetime to work on it. :) God bless, Mandy
